A Pocket Dog

I've been wrestling with depression for months. I don't imagine I'm the only one. Part of caring for my mental health these days is keeping my eyes and ears open for delights.

We took Murphy for a walk in the sunshine yesterday (Oh, the sunshine! It helps so much.).

Our pace is slow because we're still working on training the pup to walk beside us. It's important because he's so tiny injury to him or one of us created by us tripping over him is entirely possible.

Anyway, a couple walking hand-in-hand passed us by and the woman looked back and said: "That's a pocket dog! He could fit right in your pocket!"

And there it was. A spark of delight.

A pocket dog. What a fun idea!

  1. I love it - a pocket dog! Your dogs are so cute! Where was the other one? Or do you just take one at a time out while training?

    1. Sometimes Maya is much happier to be left at home to enjoy some peace and quiet! She has always appreciated her solitude--much like me.

  2. I heard on talk radio today that statistically it used to be one in five people were struggling with mental health issues; these days it is one out two people (don't know if that statistic was relative to our area or all over). Good thing that you are aware of what you need to try to keep your depression at bay as much as you can.

    1. Yes, I believe that. It's a challenging time for all of us.

  3. This second round of 'safer at home' has been hard for me. I find the mornings are the worst, waking up to the feeling of "now what?" Day after day. Oh, Murphy is such a cute 'pocket' dog:)

    1. I hear you about morning, Karen, and it's so sad because that's always been my favourite part of the day. We have new restrictions too, and more expected (or at least the current situation extended). Murphy (and Maya) provide moments of delight every day.

  4. I'm so sorry t hear you are suffering from depression. I'm sure for many people the pandemic hasn't helped. I think for me what has helped is that i get to still teach my special needs preschoolers in person. I'm so glad i didn't retire early!! I also go about my normal daily life and try to focus on God and others. Of course wearing a mask and getting all my vitamins doesn't hurt either!!

That's super cute about the pocket dog!!
